Choosing Black and White or Color Surveillance Cameras

One thing to consider when deciding on installing surveillance cameras or hidden cameras is whether to go with black and white or color. This will depend on where install the cameras and what you want the cameras to record.

Color is a good option for areas that will be well lit. However, if that be outside, once dusk approaches it will be very difficult to see what the camera has recorded. Or, if inside, should the lighting become dim, or lost all together, again, it will be difficult to see the action recorded. If color is important, there are surveillance cameras that have a feature to switch to black and white and using infrared technology when the lighting becomes dim.

If you opt for black and white, lighting conditions are not going to much to be concerned with. Black and white surveillance or cameras have a low lux, therefore allowing better quality of video in well lit or dim conditions. Some hidden or surveillance cameras may even come with an X-Vision feature, where the camera can see even in almost complete darkness.

Also take into consideration that regular black and white cameras are less expensive than color cameras. Choosing X-Vision or infrared will increase costs for both versions or the hidden or surveillance cameras.

Imagine a camera hidden inside a tissue box. Well, it’s not just imagination, it’s a nifty idea for a place to hide a spy camera. Since a tissue box can fit into any type of room, it definitely is not going to be questioned. For those who are looking for extra comfort while taking a night out and need a babysitter, the wireless Tissue Box Hidden Camera works perfectly, and will give peace of mind while you are out.

Tissue Box Hidden CameraThe Tissue Box cover simply slips over top of a regular cardboard box of tissues, while the spy camera is conveniently hidden inside the plastic cover. Connect the receiver to your recording device, such as a DVR, VCR or even your PC, start recording, and head out for that much needed night on the town. Even if a tissue is needed, no one will know that it doubles as a hidden nanny camera.

This hidden camera is available in black and white or color. You can also purchase a high power version which allows video transmission up to 2500 hundred feet.

Another clever use for hidden or surveillance camera recording – using a PC to record the video.  The USB Digital Video Recorder is computer surveillance hardware that can be installed on a PC in just minutes, allowing one to monitor their camera surveillance while they are away from where the cameras are installed.

The USB DVR is connected to the desktop or laptop computer that the cameras PC are also connected to.  Just plug the USB DVR into an open USB port, and the camera into the RCA cable ports. The USB DVR will allow up to 4 cameras. While away from home, one can log on to the internet and view the camera live, or review past recordings, from any computer in the world.USB Digital Video Recorder

Some other key features of the USB Digital Video Recorder are:

 • Video playback, pause, stop, fast-forward, single-frame play and image capture
 • Advanced search mode
 • Multi-lingual
 • User friendly interface
 • Can record to HDD, USB DISK, ZIP Drive, CD/RW

The USB Digital recorder eliminates the need for an extra DVR or VCR to record hidden camera video from home and even professional camera video for a business.

Abusive Nannies Caught by Hidden Cameras

Baby Monitor Hidden Camera

Deciding whether or not to purchase a hidden camera can be a heavy decision for parents when they have someone else caring for their children while they are not home. It is hard to think that someone could actually hurt a child. It is even harder for a parent to only be able to wonder how well their children are being cared for. Following are two examples of nannies caught on video while caring for others children.

In February 2008, a mother of two 7 month old twin boys in Cary, North Carolina, hired a nanny with a reputable background in child care, with references. The mother’s sons were born 3 months premature and were not healthy enough to attend day care. The mother was able to spend time with the nanny and her child before the nanny even began work. The nanny began working on January 2nd.

In early February, the mother set up a hidden camera in her home. After viewing what the nanny cam recorded after one day, she immediately fired the nanny. The hidden camera caught the nanny leaving the babies unattended on the couch propped up on a pillow.  One baby did roll, but thankfully not on the floor. She also handled the babies by grabbing them by their clothing and almost tossing them aside. This nanny was sentenced to take 8 months of child safety classes, 30 days of community service, and was prohibited from caring for any children other than her own for one year. Fortunately, no serious injuries to the two babies, but the parents painful memories of witnessing such behavior towards their babies can last a lifetime.

Also in February 2008, a father of one 5 month old daughter in Garden City, South Carolina, hired a nanny. He had interviewed several nannies before hiring the one he chose. He checked her references and performed a criminal background check before hiring her. Everything came back clean.

On the first day of this nannies employment, the father of this 5 month old baby saw on video from his hidden camera this woman shaking his baby several times. This camera happened to have audio and the baby’s cry could be heard very well. The father filed a police report immediately, and it took a week for the police to catch up with her.  She was charged with unlawful neglect of a child or helpless person and assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.

A medical exam was performed on the 5 month old, where no injuries were found. However, the parents say that they noticed a change in their daughters behavior and mannerisms.

It is heartbreaking to watch such video’s. Especially when the babies are innocent and unable to defend themselves or tell their parents. Hearing about and watching these types of occurrences doesn’t make a decision to have a hidden nanny camera so heavy anymore.
